Bushabout - Sept. 08 Ningaloo Marine Park

Two pleasant weeks at Fortescue River Mouth - see 'FISHABOUT', we headed south again to Ningaloo Station, via Exmouth.

Laundry, restocked and e-mails attended to, we couldn't get out of Exmouth fast enough.

No camping signs every where, the Marine Park full, so we got out of town to the rest area south of Exmouth & spent a pleasant evening with Kevin & Maureen whom we had meet earlier at Baradale rest area when we had breakfast. They also felt Exmouth was not for them.

Checked in with Jane at Ningaloo Homestead, whom I had meet 30 years previously when diving on a wreck with Channel 9, and the WA Maritime Museum - another blog perhaps?

We camped at North Lefroy beach, South Lefroy was crowded but much closer to the reef.

We were soon setup and the Tinnie in the water, the wind was dropping off - 'you beauty'

Next morning it was mirror calm and the water crystal clear, again 'you beauty' maybe we are in for some good weather = NO WIND. But this was the best day we had in the two weeks we camped here. We kept hanging in there, it will be better tomorrow, and again and again.
Meet some great folks who only stayed a day or two and took off because of the WIND.

Neat colours!

Tempting - Roast Goat!

Dunny flush, feet washing etc - Sue hates sand on the floor, I am sure the floor covering is going to wear out soon due to constant sweeping!

Took a drive to creek but did not cross as High tide and not a lot of fresh water to wash down the vehicle.

On occassion (three walks up the hill) we could get mobile phone connection and check e-mails.

A local on one of our hill walks.

Oyster collecting nearly went wrong, walked the beach, but soon found it was real soft and the tide on it's way in. Tyres deflated to 12psi to get out of here - WHEW!

Camp on the weapons side for 'FREE'

Crocodile Long Tom - good bait!

Many an hour beach fishing as to windy to do much tinnie fishing, and finally hook some thing BIG!

Bugger! - just a Shovel Nose Shark - to big for our freezer!

Sue's catch - Giant Toad Fish - one of the most toxic non-protien toxins around.
We also caught a 'tinnie' on this occassion we were on the water. Had been watching another couple launch off the beach. To cut it short, he left the tinnie on the beach, tide rising and an easterly blowing. You guest it - he was soon swimming, to no avail. Bret and Sue (another Sue) will never leave their tinnie on a beach again without the anchor out.
Due to the lack of fish, this bog didn't really qualify as a 'FISHABOUT" blog!
We have renamed 'Ningaloo' to 'WINDYLOO'!
